Last lunch for the singleton lady

The BFM and the five ladies at work decided to go out and have lunch to celebrate the lucky lady who is getting married next week as it was her last day at work today. So we decided to go to

Caffe Spice
7 Upper Cross Street
BT40 1SZ
028 2826 9633

We arrived about 12.40 ish and it was packed. We had to queue up to place our order and pay.Four of the girls ordered paninis with salad, pasta and potato salad, which apparently was devine!! The fifth one had chicken goujons and chips, whilst I had Chicken burger, garlic chips, peppercorn mayo
dip for £7.It was well cooked and flavoured southern fried chicken with lettuce and tomato in the soft white bun.The chips had just enough garlic and were not covered in butter.

The service was good and our only regret was that we did not have enough room for the tray bakes and coffee which looked absolutely scrumptious. Larne really has something to shout out about,so please support this local venture.

Birthday Treat by Wifey at Macau

The BFM was taken out for a wonderful Chinese meal by his significant other to celebrate his birthday.

The venue was
Macau Restaurant
271 Ormeau Road
Bt7 3gg
028 9069 1800

We ordered one starter, one main and rice. Now this must be the only Chinese restaurant which does not serve chips!!! Here’s what we had
Free prawn crackers with Chilli oil and ginger oil
King prawn with salt n chilli £6
Char Sui and monkfish hot pot £13.80
Egg fried rice £2.40
Total £22.80

This is a Byo establishment, but we just had water,so do so,also it doesn’t take credit cards and checques, only cash.

The food was fantastic, the hot pot was plentiful and served in a cast iron pot. The starter size and rice portion sizes were generous. The service was superb.

The BFM would definitely say give this place a go.

Chada O’Prey wedding part 2

The time for dinner was drawing near and the BFM was rather hungry, but the ceremony had gone on a bit too long.I knew that that would pose a logistical challenge.

The menu was a set menu

For starters we all had fan of melon with strawberry and champagne Bellini, this came out like a creamy light sauce, went very well with the melon, but not a true Bellini which is puréed white peach and Prosecco.

Now for mains,as all had been per plated and kept hot in ovens due to delay, this did dry out the food to a certain extent. The chicken and the potatoes had dried out a bit and the broccoli mornay had separated. The carrots did not taste of coriander.Overall it was edible but I had expected better.

The dessert was cinnamon flavoured apple crumble with custard, which was delicious but not very cinnamony!!!

The wedding cake was amazing. It was a 3 tier Victoria sponge cake and Malteser cake enclosed in marzipan and icing, with intricate henna type designs.Made by the team from

All the food followed the speeches. The MC Philip will be hanging up the mike in a few months and will be missed. The service was superb, all in all a gr8 day, venue, staff but food could have been better.

Chada O’Prey wedding at the Culloden part 01

The BFM and the significant other had the honour of attending the wedding of a close friend Vaneeta to Neil.

The venue was the Culloden Hotel and Spa Resort

The day was breezy but dry so some fantastic pics in the gardens.

The readings and Registry wedding were performed in the morning, and the bride looked stunning in her white dress.

After fotos we all had a drinks reception and a selection of hot and cold Indian food and sandwiches. These were provided by Nu-Delhi Indian Restaurant and the Culloden.

The Indian selection was chicken tikka, tandoori chicken, chicken samosa and seekh kebab for the non veg, and for the veggies there was pakora , onion bhaji, aloo tikki and veg samosa. Served with spicy mint chutney, tamarind sauce, salad and a large selection of sandwiches. There was also a large selection of Indian Sweets from Ambala sweets

Divine biscuits from the Culloden as well as some other tasty morsels.

After this the Hindu Ceremony was performed by the Priest Rajiv Sharma from London. He explained everything in English as well as Sanskrit.

In part 2 will tell you about dinner!!!
The whole day was I’m the Stuart Suite, but the main Mitre restaurant is worth dining in!!

Running round the park/seaside

Hi all
BFM on kiddies duty today.Weather was fab,had my daughter, nephew and niece. After some party food at one of their friends house,I took them to Loughshore Park in Jordanstown

The weather was warm with a nice sea breeze. We played some football and the girls joined in!! Then tried some of the exercise machines dotted about.A fabulous idea, keep fit in the fresh air.

Then we had a lovely walk round the park before heading down to the shores of the Belfast Lough. By this stage the kids were getting peckish and reminded me where the icecream van was!!! Kids are observant when they want to be. Off to Mr George the ice cream van man who hails from the North East of England and is a stalwart at the park. The kids wanted lollies but there was only ice cream,in cones or in tubs ala knickerbocker glories. The kids wanted cones so 3 99’s later with the sprinkles and £6 lighter we headed home for some rice and lentils.

Awesome picnic

Hi it’s holiday time, everyone was off and the weather was fab. What better time to have a family picnic outdoors at Nendrum Monastic Site just outside Comber near Mahee Island.

We all brought different things, one of my sisters brought egg sarnies and ham sarnies, the other brought salami sarnies and ham/cheese, we brought parathas, aloo gobhi and yoghurt, along with tea and soft drinks.

The kids all played football, catch and we wondered around the ruins of this old nearly 1000 year old site. The other adults just lay on the picnic blankets and had a snooze.

We have so many wonderful spots to go c and visit in NI. Please get up and go check them out!!!!

Chilling with coffee and chums

After the BFM, girls and friends from Germany enjoyed the Easter Extravaganza at Belfast City Hall, we decided to chill and have coffee and treats at Treat Boutique

United Kingdom
028 9043 4211

We had 2 large Americano
1 green tea
2 hot chocolates

This was in Victoria Square before, but I think it has found a better location!!
A burgeoning blossoming local enterprise with great staff and owners,

Wonderful West Indian at Windrush with Wendy

The BFM took the girlies for a lovely family lunch at Wendy’s Windrush cafe
45 University Road
United Kingdom
07534 566252

With thanks to a £15 Living Social voucher which was worth £30. Today was the last day, so Wendy squeezed us in for lunch.

Now I have to add that the food is all cooked fresh from 1st principles, so expect a very laid back service, and this is advised on the menu.

So we shared Corn fritter £3.95 for starter with Windies Extra Extra Hot Sauce
then for mains we had
Pork Ragout and rice £8
Prawn Rundown with rice £9
Cold Jerk Chicken salad £8
and sides of
Plantain £1.95
Dumplings £1.95
All washed down with
Ginger beer 80p and water

Suffice to say we all thoroughly enjoyed it and would thoroughly recommend it.

Wendy is a larger than life character and she is gr8 crack!!!

Good Friday Fish n Chips

Hi all the BFM is now officially on holiday til the 28th April, yippee!!!!
So to celebrate Good Friday and the start of vacation what better than good old fish and chips.

I went to The Catch
5 Larne Road
BT39 9UA
United Kingdom
Tel 028 9334 0008

All I wanted was fish and chips, so I ordered battered cod £3.95, chips £2.40 and a small portion if curry sauce 50p. It was very busy with lots of construction workers working on the Larne line upgrade.

From time to order to service was very quick.

The cod was perfectly fried, the batter crispy, the chips were excellent and not greasy and the curry sauce hit the spot. There is an extensive menu, might have the chicken curry and chips next time!!!!

I would urge you all to try this local establishment and remember the time
of year.
