Best Indian Styled contemporary restaurant in Belfast

The BFM/BTM mum,dad and sister went to Nu Delhi in Belfast- truly my favourite Contemporary Indian Styled Restaurant in Belfast.

We were treated like royalty and had some amazing food. For starters we had a platter of vegetarian and non vegetarian options which included samosas, pakoras and aloo tikki and non vegetarian being two types of fish pakoras, seek kebab and chicken tikka served with salad and a choice of 6 sauces!!! Also dahi bhalla to cool things down.

For mains there was a chicken dish and an on the bone lamb spicy dish (my favourite), as well as salad, cumin rice, naan and roti. For vegetarian selection there was daal makhani, aloo gobhi, palak paneer, malai kofta and bhindi bhaji. It really was a feast fit for a maharajahs table. We also had some delicious mango lassi to wash it all down.

For dessert it was gajar ka halwa, Rasmalai and gulab Jaman.

The staff are second to none, chef Sanj has been there from day one and does it all so well. I would thoroughly recommend to all food lovers, lovers!!!  and travellers!!!

Taste of New York in Belfast

The BFM went to the RBG in the ParkInn by Radisson for a cup of coffee and it felt like stepping into a bar in New York.

4 Clarence Street West
Belfast
BT2 7GB
United Kingdom
http://www.rbggrill.com/restaurantbelfast
028 9067 7707

The bar really does mimic a bar New York style from the long thin serving area, to the bar stools, tiled flooring, booths and arched bricked ceiling not to mention the numerous pictures on the walls. The bar opens up into a wider two storey area at the rear. The atmosphere is truly American, so what beverage to have than an Americano coffee.

There is also an extensive and reasonably priced food menu, pity I couldn’t try it!!!

Once again the BFM shares the food love!!! Ciao 4 now!!

Black Friday at the Belfast Christmas Market

Hi all, BFM and George from SOS made a trip last night to the Market, expecting not to get too much. It was Black Friday ie the busiest Friday for bars/restaurants/clubs before Christmas. The media had been bigging it up all day. The weather was also very favourable. Now driving around town a lot of bars/restaurants were unusually quiet,as was general footfall.

When I got to the market I chatted to the stall holders, who did say business was ok, some busier than others. The upshot was that we did get a lot of food, the most to date!!! The Moroccan stall gave plenty,he could have given 2-3 times the amount but we didn’t have enough containers!!!! Tapitas gave us lots of chicken as did our Jamaican friend Carl. The Pan House gave us quite a bit of pan dishes and Bratwurst. Our French friends gave us potatoes and Tartiflette and lastly the patisserie gave us twisted baguettes and garlic bread with cheese.

Firstly a big thank you to all the stalls who donated, your food has helped lots of people!!!!! Secondly its Saturday today, weathers good so please all get out and about and buy food from the market, please don’t waste it as there are people who are in need of food.
Also message to restaurants/take aways and people in general, please keep the portion sizes on the smaller side to reduce waste, especially over Christmas when we all tend to overdo it. Will be at market again tonight and on the SOS bus tonight!! I also gave some Boost for drinks.

Once again the BFM shares the food love!!! Ciao 4 now!!

QFT Takeover Christmas Dinner

The BFM and a select few from the Queens University Theatre Takeover Film Festival, had our annual Christmas Dinner at China China.

1 University St
Belfast
BT7 1FY
United Kingdom

http://www.chinachinaorientalbuffet.co.uk

Being the last Friday before Christmas I thought that town and restaurants would have been really busy, but it was surprisingly quiet!!! As was China China, it was quieter than I’ve been accustomed to. All the more for us!!!

William the owner was telling me that Christmas isn’t a really busy time as his market is usually students and families. There was a good range of food, including sushi and my favourite the Teppanyaki corner. The Teppanyaki chef was an Eastern European lady and she was fantastic, I had the Teppanyaki chicken, squid and chicken dumplings. There was all the usual Chinese starters and main courses. The food was very good and I must say the consistency has been the same for past few years. So we’ll done to William and co. If you check the web site you may find some deals, also there is a loyalty card scheme in operation.

I would definitely recommend this place as a good and authentic Chinese buffet restaurant, so get on down and enjoy!!! Prices vary, with most expensive being Friday/Saturday nights (£11).

Helping the needy with food

The BFM was walking through the Christmas Market a couple of weeks ago and I spoke to a lot of Traders especially Carl from A Taste of The Tropics, serving delicious Jamaican food, about what happened to the food at the end of the night. They all said it was binned and Carl asked me if I could do something about it.

I along with a few other blogging friends did want to help over the Christmas period, but I thought why not help the needy and less fortunate now, between today and when the market closes on 21st December.

I was in the market yesterday and just so happened to pop into the management office where I met Norman, a real nice chap and Alan Hartwell the MD of Marketplace Europe. I gave my pitch and in the words of Lord Sugar I was hired. I fixed up a meeting for Friday at 5pm. Now I had to get a charity on board.

It is quite hard to get someone on board at short notice at this time of year, as they are mainly volunteers with day jobs. Also transport is an issue. So I tried several agencies to no avail, before I was put in touch with the SOS Bus. I rang and spoke to Alison who put me through to Jo (boss) who said he couldn’t make it tonight but George could.

Norman and I met at 5pm, we went round all the food stalls and they were all keen on donating any sizeable leftovers. I spoke to George and Norman and arranged to meet at 10pm. Unbeknown to us the heavens opened and lots of stalls shut early (Moroccan, paella, tartiflette and the Bratwurst Schwenkgrille) ,whilst some had sold out (world meats, noodles). So our pledges pulled off and we got boxes of hot casseroles from Belfast Pan House and sausages, lots of twisted baguettes from the patisserie,
Rice from Tapitas and Bratwurst from the German Beer Tent.

I wish to thank Carl and the stall holders for giving me the idea, Alan and Norman for saying yes and facilitating it, all the organisations for their time speaking with me especially Alison, Jo and George and all the stalls that contributed. The SOS bus will pick up and distribute til the 21st December. With our combined efforts let’s bring a beacon of light and hope for the less fortunate amongst us.

Pure passionate Paella

The BFM was in the Continental Market at City Hall and got a chance to sample fantastic paella.

The recipes were the same as chefs mum. All the fish (prawn, squid and mussels) were bought from St Georges Mkt this morning, chicken is fresh and chorizo, rice and saffron comes from Spain. They are also serving meat balls. I could not decide which was best, so try both and decide yourself. This stand has been at the Market from the start.

Lovely Italian

The BFM had a wonderful taste of truly delightful Italian food in an amazingly designed and authentically decorated two storey, 200 seater Italian Restaurant that is Fratelli.

60 Gt Victoria Street

This is the 4th incarnation as a restaurant and having been to the previous 3 (Bourbon, Victoria’s and The Malt Room), it’s simply the best!!!

Joanne the manager was very helpful and explained the menus, why the logo is a pig (as wild boar roamed around Fratellis in Ballymena),and served me and finished off by showing me a selection of desserts.

I was very surprised and gladly appreciated the complimentary arancini, bread sticks, olive bread and olive tapenade.

To follow it was pork fillet, sautéed potatoes, mushroom and porcini truffle cream with hint of Tarragon (£10 lunch, there is also an £8 and £6 lunch). It was served in a very large white round bowl not dissimilar to nouvelle cuisine, but the good thing was it was very filling!! The whole meal was very earthy, pork fantastically cooked and the tarragon and truffle with the porcine complimented it very well.

There is a separate a la carte evening menu after 5 pm and a set Christmas lunch and dinner menu. Downstairs will seat 100 as will upstairs. The decour was splendid with very ornate craftsmanship. The builders turned it round in 5 weeks!!

Fair play to the Galgorm Group.Visit my website for pictures.
Also check out their own site for offers etc.
