Cosmo very cosmopolitan

The BFM wants to share his food love of Cosmo,Victoria Square,Belfast. I have said before am not a big fan of buffet, but this is the quintessential best buffet chain.

I was joined for Sunday lunch by my two sisters. I booked online on Friday for noon, and let me recommend you book in plenty of time, as when we left at two the restaurant was packed and there were queues forming to get in.

The range was amazing, from dim sum to sushi, from salads to Indian and Chinese starters of all types, including chicken tikka, seek kebab, duck pancakes, prawn toast, crackers and a myriad of others.

The main courses were from Italy (pizza and pasta), traditional roast dinner, live cooking stations exhibiting Teppanyaki (I had the scallop and prawns) and grilled meats (I had chicken and ribs). There was also live noodle station and real Tandoori oven cooking Tandoori chicken and naan.

There was a great selection of curries/meat in sauce dishes. From the Indian kitchen there was chicken tikka masala, chicken korma, dun lamb curry, chick pea curry, potatoes and rice.

Then Japanese,Thai,Chinese,Korean too many to mention, you just have to go.

Just when you think you cannot eat any more there’s the sweet section, say no more. Extremely highly recommended,so get down to Cosmo.

Panto Aladdin at the GOH

Tonight the BFM and family went to the Grand Opera House for our annual panto trip.

2 Great Victoria Street
Belfast
BT2
Northern Ireland
http://www.goh.co.uk
028 9024 1919

It was a great show with sterling performances from Faye Tozer, Jimmy Tamley and our very own May McFetteridge.

There were a few empty seats either due to Christmas shopping or the price of tickets, which personally I feel are a bit high. The performance clock outside said show would be over at 9.30pm, it finished at 9.10pm.

So couple of points got the GOH to take on board, otherwise a fantastic show in an amazing venue!!

The restaurant in the Baby Grand has some lovely dishes,so will have to check it out!!

Curry Sauce NI @ the markets

The BFM loves Curry Sauce NI for the past 8 or more years at different markets but more so St George’s and the Continental/ Christmas markets.

The concept is simple. There are 10 different sauces which will easily feed at least 3 people possibly 4. I have used all 10 sauces and they are good. They range from mild to medium to hot and are mainly Indian with some Thai.

You can use any kind of meat or vegetables and you can thin them down with water or coconut cream.

They sell for £4 per tub or 3 for £10. The best thing is you can try b4 u buy!!! There’s a range in order of heat in which you can dunk pieces of crackers.

Big Pan Cuisine

Hi the BFM checked out the Big Pan Cuisine who were serving German and French cuisine cooked in large wide shallowish pans. Their location is gr8 and they have been doing this for 8 years.

I was lucky to taste all 3 dishes, the two French dishes being chicken Provençal, the champignons (mushrooms in a creamy sauce) and the
German dish of potato, bacon and onion, Brattlartoffeln. All dishes cooked in beg oil.

Try the platter, that’s a proper meal!!

Nice cuppa coffee in nice surroundings

The BFM was in town and a bit cold and thirsty so decided to pop into Jury’s Inn for a cup of coffee.

6-26 Gt Victoria Street
Belfast
BT2 7AP
United Kingdom
http://belfasthotels.jurysinns.com/

The lobby area is big and spacious with reception opposite the entrance.
There was a comfy sofa area to the left and a booking only restaurant, residents have their breakfast there, otherwise you need to book.

I had my coffee in the bar to the right of the entrance. It was freshly made and nice and hot. They also serve meals there. A great place for business or leisure traveller.Centrally located and used to be the Canon cinema many moons ago- I remember going there!!

Newest light in Belfast the Lantern

The BFM just had to go and try this little jewel of a restaurant. It was called Rhubarb and Arun (chef) and Vijay (front of house) partnered up and bought it and it now shines as the Lantern, a BYO European restaurant.

58 Wellington Place
Belfast
BT1 6GF
United Kingdom
http://www.thelanternbelfast.uk
028 9032 8844

They close Sunday and Monday. It is a quaint 42 seater intimate place and I was very much looking forward to eating the food. The menu offered was the Christmas lunch and dinner and great value.

Before my main course came out I was served an amouse bouche of toast and vegetable broth. Then came chicken breast on the bone (cooked to perfection) with champ and pepper sauce, also some carrot and parsnip, all for £10.95
I had there signature sweet which was Lemon posset which was absolutely amazing £4.95.

Arun is the chef,Vijay front of house and both are partners. The
corkage is £2.50 for bottles of wine or spirits and 40p for cans/bottles beers/alcopops, which I found reasonable. It allows you to bring what ever drink you want and it keeps the price down. Please do support this wonderful regenerated Gastro venue.

The Magical Platters Christmas Show

Mr and Mrs BFM were invited to the Cabaret Supper Club, one of four restaurants owned by Eamon McCusker, the others being Cheeky Cherub. AM:PM and Teatro, to watch The Magical Platters Christmas Show. They are a four piece Motown group made up of 3 guys and a gal.

38-44 Upper Arthur Street
Belfast
BT1 4GH

http://www.ampmbelfast.com

The atmosphere was great even though it was 2/3 full. We got great seats at the very front. They sang some amazing Platters songs and other hits like The Great Pretender, It Takes Two Baby and Unchanged Melody.

Before and during the show we were offered trays of sharing platters which were Southern fried chicken, chicken kebabs, arancini (rice and cheese balls fried),chips, sliders and fried pork belly.

It was a great night and a great venue.

Diwali at Tamarind

The BFM and family along with other friends got together at Tamarind Indian Restaurant

54-56 Stranmillis Road
Belfast
BT9 5AD
United Kingdom
+44 28 9066 8080

It was £15 per adult for starters, mains and dessert. For starters we had chicken pakoras, chicken tikka and veggie samosa, with poppadoms and chutneys. For mains there were two chicken dishes, a lamb dish and a veggie dish. Also salad, nan and rice. It was all buffet style and delicious. Followed by kheer which is rice pudding. We only had to pay for drinks.

Diwali is the Hindu ceremony of Festival of Lights and our new year. We started with a prayer ceremony by our Priest. Then the food and sparklers outside for the kids. Then there was singing, dancing and performances by the kids before we took the kids home!!!

Spirit of Belfast,sign of hope

The building in the Titanic quarter is iconic. Only problm is car parking, say no more. But once you go iside there are all sorts of historical archives about Belfast and Northern Ireland. It really does give one a great overview on life in the past. It certainly is worth a visit.

There are plenty of places nearby for food, drink and toilet facilities.Best seen on a Saturday afternoo.

I’m excited about Christmas

The BFM loves Christmas at Castle Court

Castlecourt
Royal Avenue
Belfast
BT1 1DD
028 9023 4591
http://www.castlecourt-uk.com

Castlecourt for me is a great centre, 3000000 sq foot, 1600 car park spaces. It’s a pity the city council turned down planning permission but I digress.

For me Christmas is Castlecourt. Check out the pics I took today. The other point is it is more of a local traditional centre.
