Often overlooked Country Club

Anyone guess which one? The BFM is talking about La Mon Hotel and Country Club,a lovely 4 star complex. Great for all occasions. We attended a dear friends celebration of his life.

They were busy getting ready for their festivities. I was very kindly given a brief tour and saw the Gardens, the Milford Suite, Ballygowan Suite,Reception and bar area where you can have pub food.

As a new side venture they are making their own preserves, so look forward to trying them. Also The Mill Restaurant at The La Mon has just been refurbished and does great food.

Aunt Sandra’s for all that is sweet!!

BFM and significant other was at the Clarion last night for evening reception

The function room upstairs was well decorated, the top table was elegant and the 8 tables had a lovely silver candle arbre as the centre piece.

For ents we had the DJ, the singing manager, now he was good and sang a few songs during the buffet, which was an array of sandwiches, cocktail sausages and sausage rolls and tea/coffee. Then there were sweets and chocolate and popcorn and candy,a kids dream, a dentist’ nightmare!!!! But we all enjoyed courtesy of Aunt Sandra’s.

Mayday Bank Holiday Weekend Gourmet Meal

The BFM and girls descended upon the Killyhevlin Hotel for a well earned May Day Bank Holiday break.

The deal was two nights bed and breakfast and a 4 course evening meal in the Silks Restaurant. We decided to go for a swim, steam, sauna and outdoor hot tub to build up an appetite before indulging in the gourmet meal.

We booked table for 6.30 pm as we wanted to be out quickly with two young boisterous little ones, just so they would not annoy other diners. The staff were great and the restaurant was very family orientated and the two girls quickly befriended two other girls of comparable ages. They had a ball much to the chagrin of the four mortified parents, as they ran around the restaurant and up and down the stairs!!!! Back to dinner.

We had feta cheese salad and smoked salmon with wheaten bread for starters after nibbling complimentary breads. To satisfy the girls an order of pasta strips and chips was made also.

For main course we got chicken and boxty, tagliatelle, vegetables (broccoli and carrots) and chips. All washed down with water. The food was fantastic, well presented, excellently served and very generous portions- all our plates were cleaned!!!!

For sweet the two that stood out for us were the tart tatin and Baileys cheesecake which was washed down with Bewleys coffee and a cuppa tea. After a feed like that it was time to retire, the girls had run around plenty, now time for sleep. Four course meal costs £32.50 each, kids main was £5.25.

I can see why this is a very popular and busy spot. This is our third stay here and the location is great, staff amazing, food fabulous and well worth
it. So please stay, eat and drink!!!!

Chada O’Prey wedding part 2

The time for dinner was drawing near and the BFM was rather hungry, but the ceremony had gone on a bit too long.I knew that that would pose a logistical challenge.

The menu was a set menu

20140427-002302.jpg

For starters we all had fan of melon with strawberry and champagne Bellini, this came out like a creamy light sauce, went very well with the melon, but not a true Bellini which is puréed white peach and Prosecco.

Now for mains,as all had been per plated and kept hot in ovens due to delay, this did dry out the food to a certain extent. The chicken and the potatoes had dried out a bit and the broccoli mornay had separated. The carrots did not taste of coriander.Overall it was edible but I had expected better.

The dessert was cinnamon flavoured apple crumble with custard, which was delicious but not very cinnamony!!!

The wedding cake was amazing. It was a 3 tier Victoria sponge cake and Malteser cake enclosed in marzipan and icing, with intricate henna type designs.Made by the team from

All the food followed the speeches. The MC Philip will be hanging up the mike in a few months and will be missed. The service was superb, all in all a gr8 day, venue, staff but food could have been better.
